Tertiary occupational therapy serves a range of specialties across the spectrum of care including acute, medical and rehabilitation services with a focus on diagnostic assessment, care planning and intervention in the context of patient and family centered care.
The goal is to enable children to participate as fully as possible in the activities of everyday life, and to support children in continuing to grow and develop skills that support lifelong occupational engagement.
Provides:
- function based assessment, treatment, consultation and education targeting specific goals
- service can be provided in isolation of, or in collaboration with various multi-disciplinary clinics
- service delivery follows a response to intervention approach and may be offered in universal, targeted or individualized formats
- navigational supports to transition children to local services as required using Pediatric Rehabilitation Continuum to guide level and location of care needs
Service Streams:
- Musculoskeletal: Plastics, Rheumatology, Amputee, Arthrogryposis
- Neurological and Transitions: Driving, Splinting, Treatment Post-intervention, Specialty equipment, Functional Goals
- Eating, Feeding and Swallowing: Instrumental and Clinical Swallowing assessment, clinical eating, feeding and swallowing management and treatment
- ACETS: Provision and support of augmentative communication strategies and devices
- Seating: Provision and support of level B or C wheelchairs and seating systems
- ECR: multidisciplinary intervention for children under 5 with acute changes in function and/ or medical complexity
- BCI: Provision and support of Brain Computer Interface (BCI) Technology
