Service provides:
- a free peer-to-peer youth mental health awareness and suicide prevention training initiative that strengthens an individual’s existing supportive skills and provides the knowledge necessary to support the mental health and well-being of others and themselves
Topics include:
- effective communication
- self-care
- healthy boundaries
- the ethics of helping
- handling crisis situations
- and suicide awareness
Outcomes include:
- how to identify and help youth who may be struggling
- how to take care of your own well-being when you are a helper to someone else
- increased awareness to reduce stigma of mental illness and suicide
- expanded knowledge on youth mental health issues
- how to find and refer to appropriate professional resources
Content aligns with Health and Career and Life Management (CALM) class curriculum requirements and is appropriate for grades 9 to 12. Program may also be offered in a mixed-grade format.
