This clinic provides medical, psychological, and surgical interventions for weight management and improving health. Support is provided to individuals with obesity who require complex medical management and/or surgical intervention.
The initial clinic assessment determines the patient’s specific barriers to managing their weight. Developing an individualized care plan with the patient may include:
Clinic staff will assess whether bariatric surgery is an option for the patient. If a patient is a suitable candidate for bariatric surgery, he or she will be referred to the Edmonton Adult Bariatric Specialty Clinic; Grand Prairie Adult Bariatric Specialty Clinic staff will support the patient before and after the surgery.

Doctor referrals must include current BMI and medical history. Once a referral is received, the patient is contacted by the clinic clerk to make an appointment for an initial assessment and the referring physician is notified of this appointment.
