Provides financial, health, and emergency benefits to eligible adult Albertans with a permanent disability that substantially limits their ability to earn a living.
Service provides:
- monthly core, health, personal, and emergency benefits to assist eligible individuals with their living needs and with living as independently as possible
Core benefits include:
- living allowance for individuals living in the community or a modified living allowance for individuals living in a facility
- child benefit to assist with costs associated with raising dependent children
Health benefits include:
- prescription drugs
- essential diabetic supplies
- optical services
- dental services
- emergency ambulance services
- waiver of the co-payment fee for Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL)
Personal benefits include:
- assistance with specific 1-time or ongoing expenses over and above the monthly living allowance or modified living allowance
Emergency benefit includes:
- helping clients with costs to deal with an emergency situation beyond their control that puts them or their dependents at immediate risk
- an emergency situation is where Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) determines that the health or safety of the client or their dependent child is immediately at risk.
The emergency benefit may cover the cost of:
- accommodation
- childcare
- damage deposit
- eviction due to outstanding rental arrears
- food
- essential repairs to principal residence or to major appliances
- replacement clothing
- transportation
- utility arrears where a disconnection notice has been received
- other goods and services required in an emergency situation
