Offers an integrated and holistic approach to assist participants in entering or re-entering the workforce.
Service provides:
- assistance to learn and build skills for long-term jobs and careers
- a 26-week program made up of 3 distinct sections (Skill Development, Work Exposure, and Work Maintenance)
Skill Development (up to 14 weeks) includes:
- in-class portion of the program
- learning and developing life skills and pre-employment skills required for maintaining long-term employment with supports tailored to specific needs
- a daily living allowance while participating in this phase of the program
Work Exposure (up to 12 weeks) includes:
- a chance to experience working for an employer while being supported by Bissell Centre
- opportunity to further develop work habits and ethics while learning employer expectations, supervision, and safety standards on the job
- placements that take into consideration participants’ personal preferences, location, role, environment, participant ability, company needs, potential salary, and the likelihood of hiring upon completion of this part of the program
Work Maintenance (up to 8 weeks) includes:
- support from program staff for up to 8 weeks after the Work Exposure period ends and if any questions or concerns come up, help will be available through a phone call, e-mail, or onsite visits
- periodic check-ins by program staff with the employer and the participant
- individual coaching
- additional training sessions if needed
- 1-on-1 support
