Grief counselling for adults in the Calgary Zone who have experienced the death of a family member or significant other. Currently offering in-person and some virtual services. The program is not a crisis service.
The Grief Support Program offers individual and group services.
All new clients must attend individual counselling to determine which counselling services would be most helpful including the possibility of group. Daytime appointments are available. All counsellors have specialized training and skills in grief and bereavement care. Services are offered in a safe, supportive and healing environment. (In person and some online)
Grief groups are offered from September to June each year.
All clients need to be seen individually for counselling first and if group is an appropriate invervention, they will be registered by their grief counselor. Those attending a grief group can expect to meet others who share similar experiences and losses. Groups run one time per week for six weeks.
The types of groups offered are:
- loss of a Partner
- loss of Child
- loss of Sibling
- loss of Parent
- mixed loss groups to support other types of losses
Each group is led by one of the counselors and has 2 - 3 trained volunteers, many who have come through the program themselves. Groups are offered in the afternoons and early evening times. The program is augmented by donation funding. Tax deductible donations to the Grief Support Program are appreciated.
