Each person will be assessed on their need, urgency, and if they are a good candidate for the procedure. Patients are required to follow a complex medical treatment plan. They should be emotionally stable, have realistic attitudes towards illness, outcome and transplantation.

Patients are assessed by the intestinal transplant team using tests and interviews to see if they’re good candidates for surgery. Clients are considered for an intestinal transplant if it’s likely the surgery will help the person live longer and have a better quality of life.
