Provides children and families with supports and skills to function effectively within their home, family, and community.
Service provides:
- support to families and youth within their own communities
Includes:
- in-home mediation, counselling, and support services
- parenting skills education
- community advocacy and connection with community resources
- connecting with a family worker, a trained professional who supports families in identifying and reaching goals
The purpose is to strengthen and preserve families through family-centred services. This is accomplished by:
- promoting the protection and well-being of children in their homes
- supporting and educating parents to increase their parenting skills
- preventing, reducing, or eliminating behaviours which may place a child, family, or community at risk
- supporting and enhancing a stable and nurturing family environment in which children can grow and develop
- improving family communication and functioning
- responding quickly to family crises
- increasing family cohesiveness and support networks
- preventing unnecessary removal of children from their homes
- supporting children to return home in a safe and timely manner
