Dragonfly Children's Healing Centre
Provides children and youth programming to enhance the social well-being of individuals, families, and community through prevention.
Service provides:
- programming with a trauma-informed therapeutic approach to nurture, protect, enrich, educate, and heal children and youth who are, or have been, exposed to domestic violence, homelessness, and suicide
Identified outcomes include:
- to build adult, child, and youth resiliency to face social, psychological, and economic challenges
- to increase adult parenting capabilities and improved parent / child bond
- to prevent suicidal ideation for either the child or the parent
- to prevent family breakdown and mitigate the impact of trauma on the entire family
Programs include:
- Kid Power - an 8 week play therapy group, offered 6 times a year, for children ages 5 to 11 who have been affected by domestic violence, with a parent's group that runs at the same time as the children's group
- Youth Boundaries - a psychoeducational support group offered 3 times a year and 1-to-1 support for youth ages 14 to 17 who want to learn about creating healthy boundaries within dating relationships, with parents, with friends, with teachers, and with others in their lives
- Play Therapy / Therapy - therapy sessions for children ages 3 to 11 experiencing trauma because of domestic violence, homelessness, and suicide
- Snoezelen Room - a multi-sensory therapy room with the capacity to serve 250 children in a year
