The COPD Diagnostic clinic is meant to provide access to services that will provide Education on COPD prevention, treatment and self management strategies and optimize patient quality of life.
The COPD Diagnostic clinic services may be used for patients:
- with new or suspected diagnosis of COPD
- diagnostic uncertainty of COPD
- previous smoking history of greater than 20 pack years
- new home oxygen start
- who require an urgent referral to a respirologist for management of COPD
Patients excluded include:
- a likely diagnosis of a lung condition other than COPD
- advanced metastatic lung cancer undergoing palliative radiotherapy / chemotherapy
- patient involved with palliative care
- patient currently admitted to hospital
- patient under evaluation for sleep apnea
- patient does not have the ability to be contacted
