Service provides:

assistance to individuals with navigating the health system
promotion and protection of the rights of persons in accordance with the Mental Health Act and Patient Advocate Regulation

Includes:

informing individuals about what they can expect from the health system and their responsibilities
individual advocacy
investigating situations where patients have experienced a situation not consistent with the Health Charter
redirecting complaints to existing resolutions mechanisms where appropriate
support and rights-related information for psychiatric patients who are certified and detained in designated mental health facilities or subject to a Community Treatment Order (CTO)
information about patient rights, detention, treatment, and care
presentations and training about patient rights to professionals, community organizations, and other interested parties
