Service provides:
advocacy for a sustained and diversified economy that creates prosperity and opportunity for all residents
advocacy for an economy that capitalizes on abundant natural resources, promotes strong business relationships, and supports co-operative partnerships
Current projects include:
advocating for the construction of North to Alaska rail line which will provide direct rail access from Fort McMurray to connected ports in Alaska
attracting tourism investment to the region through a partnership with Mackenzie Frontier Tourist Association (MFTA)
promoting educational partnerships for training and retention of the local labour force
Hemp Viability Project – Phase V; partnership with Mackenzie Applied Research Association
pulse crops - investigating the potential for this food crop in the region (harvesting and processing opportunities) and attending export symposiums hosted by Plant Protein Alliance of Alberta (PPAA) throughout the year
creating a series of promotional videos; these videos will highlight the region’s tourism, industries, and residential centers and will be used as a component in promotional packages
networking and advocacy - maintaining an active membership in the Alberta Association of Urban Municipalities, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta, the Alberta Economic Developers Association, and the Economic Developers Association of Canada
alternative uses for oil and gas infrastructure - investigating alternatives such as using the oil well infrastructure for power generation; opportunities for funding will be investigated under the new Municipal Community Generation Challenge recently announced through the Municipal Climate Change Action Center
building a relationship with the Northwest Territories (NWT) - attending events in the NWT to identify partnership opportunities across a variety of industries (retail, mining, travel, and tourism)
