Service targeted to individuals with pets who are experiencing 1 of the following life transitions:

• domestic violence - there is a strict confidentiality clause and there will be no posts or photos of you or your animal on any agency information
• substance use treatment
• military respite - if you are going away for a training exercise or deployment and are not able to find adequate care for your pet or if you are unable to financially afford to kennel your animal
• medical respite - due to treatments, surgery, or for those who are admitted into emergency care
• disaster relief

To access service:

• complete the Guardian Angel Application and a volunteers will contact you to review your application and requirements with you over the phone

After the original application is complete, the Guardian Angel Co-ordinator will help determine what referral you require depending on which category you fall under:

• domestic violence - requires a referral from a social worker or counsellor to enter the program
• substance abuse treatment - requires a referral form from the treatment facility confirming your attendance and length of stay
• military respite - requires a referral form completed with deployment dates signed by your Commanding Officer
• medical respite - requires a referral form completed by your physician or attending nurse
• disaster relief
