Provides a school program for children with severe disabilities, complex medical needs, or social emotional needs.
Service offers:
- a school program for children with severe disabilities, complex medical needs, or social emotional needs, such as those with a diagnosis or query of autism, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, severe speech and language delays, and developmental delays
Includes:
- small classroom sizes
- adapted or modified Alberta Education curriculum
- Individual Program Plan (IPP)
- access to on-site therapist, nurses, social worker or consultants
- a large area for gross motor activities and specialized playground
- an adapted kitchen and laundry room
- Snoezelen (sensory) room
- fences
- transportation for community outings
- adapted communication devices and technology
- wheelchair accessible facility
- access to mobility and therapeutic equipment
Each student receives an IPP consisting of goals to be developed based upon individual need. Areas of focus include:
- adapting or modifying the curriculum
- facilitating receptive and expressive communication
- improving cognitive and academic abilities
- promoting independence through daily living skills
- enhancing social inclusion and social and emotional development
- improving fine and gross motor skills
- regulation through sensory integration, specialized environments, and behavioural support plans
