Provides support and assistance to victims of family violence going through or who have been subpoenaed to testify in Domestic Violence Court or Queen’s Bench criminal courts.
Service offers:
- assistance to victims of domestic violence who are required to appear in court
Includes:
- information on the criminal court process including court updates/outcomes, bail hearing outcomes and release conditions
- assistance with facilitating communication with the Crown Prosecutors’ Office
- information on rights and resources for victims of crime
- criminal court education
- court orientation
- accompaniment to court
- ongoing emotional support
- appropriate referrals to community - based programs
- assistance in safety planning / risk assessment
- information on programs and services for victims of crime
- workers available in Domestic Violence Docket Court
The Domestic Violence Complainant Assistance Program does NOT make decisions for someone, provide legal advice, provide counselling, discuss details of the offence, or provide assistance in cases other than domestic violence.
