The Red Deer Bariatric Specialty Clinic provides services for patients in the Central Zone interested in bariatric surgery. Currently the clinic does not offer a medical stream for weight management.
Provides surgical interventions for weight management and health improvement. The initial clinic assessment determines patient's specific barriers to managing their weight. Next steps involve developing an individualized care plan with patients which may include:
- behaviour modification
- counselling for nutrition, physical activity, and mental health
- bariatric surgery (surgical treatment for obesity)
- coordinating care and transitioning the patient back to their family physician with recommendations from the clinic.
Not everyone participating in the clinic is an appropriate candidate for bariatric surgery. It takes several appointments and considerable time to determine eligibility for bariatric surgery.
NOTE: For patients who require revisional consideration, we are currently only accepting revision patients whose primary surgery was performed in Red Deer, OR to those who reside within Central Zone.
