Families and youth who have had previous experience at the Stollery Children's Hospital are engaged in collaborative initiatives with physicians and staff to improve the operations of the hospital, and to further a culture of patient and family centred care at the bedside and other points of care.
Youth and families are involved in:
- sharing their stories at new staff orientations, grand rounds, conferences, workshops and special events
- education of health professionals and post-secondary students
- reviewing and providing input on pediatric programs, policies and procedures
- creation and revision of documentation for families
- design and improvement of facilities and services
- supporting other patients and families through Peer Support opportunities
- participating in interview panels of new senior level staff and physicians
- serving on the Patient and Family Centered Care Council
- serving on the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) Family Advisory Care Team
- serving on the Cardiac Family Advisory Care Team
- serving on the Stollery Youth Advisory Council
- serving on other committees and special projects
- participating in special events and activities
